Piece by Piece Dance Concert

November, 18 @ 7:30 pm

Tickets: Online 10$ / At the door 15$

City Dance prides itself on giving performance opportunities to apprentice dancers in addition to putting on cutting edge professional work by its professional City Dance Company. Thus, Piece by Piece showcases our three non-professional companies: City Dance Ensemble, a company of high schooler and college age dancers; City Dance Junior Ensemble, a company of serious elementary and middle school dancers; and 5.Seven, a company of older women who are professionals in a variety of industries, but nevertheless love to dance and enjoy the opportunity to perform. The choreography by three of City Dance’s in-house choreogaphers: Jaimee Vilela Navarrete, Stephanie Sermas, and Corrine Miller includes a wide range of styles from jazz to contemporary dance to Greek cultural dance.

Calling All Volunteers

We need your help setting up risers and seating. The more help we get the faster it will go — shouldn't take more than 30 to 45 minutes. The ladies of City Dance would appreciate the help. Please come to the studio on Sunday at 11:45am.

Pre-Order Your Nutcracker Video

In order to continue offering a professional video recording of our Nutcracker performance we're moving to a pre-order system. Both Nutcracker performances will be recorded – select one performance or order both! We must sell a minimum of 20 videos between the two shows. If we don't meet that goal all orders will be cancelled and fully refunded.

The reason for the change is simple: our wonderful videographer requires a minimum fee which the studio has covered in the past. Video sales have traditionally offset this expense but recently they've been so low they're no longer covering the minimum fee and the studio is consequently losing money. We hope our families understand and appreciate City Dance's need to make smart, yet sometimes difficult, financial decisions.

If you have any questions please let us know and please order your video before time runs out.

Houston City Dance Reprises Successful Junebug

From Adam Castaneda of the Houston Press talking about Junebug:

For more dance companies, spring shows come and go, but when you're audience demands a second viewing, it's a rare pleasure to be able to oblige a repeat performance. Houston City Dance finds itself in that enviable position; tomorrow night the company presents Junebug: A Ballet after an enthusiastically received run earlier this year. For artistic director Sherese Campbell, the magic is all in the story. "We typically don't do storylines," she explains. "We usually present a theme, and then create pieces around that theme. I believe people connected with Junebug because of the story. It's theater, and a full-length ballet."

An Evening of Southern Cuisine and Junebug: A Ballet

For one night only, Saturday, July 25th at 7:30 p.m., City Dance will turn its performance space into a dinner theater. So come and enjoy fine Southern cuisine catered by Rae Hudson of Kouture Kuisine while watching City Dance Company and narrator Kate Pogue weave the tale of one Southern woman as she journeys from the pre-Civil rights era to the present day in Junebug: A Ballet.
